From a sudden sneeze to a partial paralysis!

Sneezing is a non-voluntary activity the body does in numerous occasions, such as irritating the nose with dust, pepper and other small dust-like particles, allergies to flowers or from no known reason at all.

Sneezing only lasts a second, but in that second, not only that your eyes close, you also make a sudden movement and tighten up all the muscles in your body. Especially the neck and spine. That’s how Natalie almost lost the ability to move and walk forever!

It was a regular day and Natalie, a 23 yeas old paramedic from London was enjoying her free night from the hospital. She was at home, watching a movie with her friend and stood up from the pillow to get some popcorn, when she strained her neck and heard a loud CRACK. At the moment, nothing happened. Later on that same night, when she fell asleep and woke up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet, she couldn’t get up and move her legs! She assumed that she was drugged in the bar where she drank a drink after work. But, being a paramedic, she knew that the drug effect should begin short after she finished her drink….this was something else completely…

After being hospitalized, she couldn’t even believe at her own diagnose – a split in her neck caused a vertebral artery rupture, which caused a stroke! Luckily the medical help arrived at time and she was diagnosed correctly…

After the surgery, the right hemisphere of the brain still suffered consequences from the blood of the artery, so she was partially immobilized, on her left side, because the brain is wired with the opposite part of the body’s vegetative system.

A GoFundMe fundraiser arranged by her family helped her get through medical bills and recovery time without going to work…

She’s still astonished of the cause of her accident, and hopes to get better and laugh at this sneezing experience for a lifetime.
