Energy drinks became popular about 10 years ago. Now, the first and most popular energy drink, Red Bull, is the sponsor of most of the extreme sports persons and racing competitions.
If you didn’t know, the substance that makes you sleepless and boosts your adrenaline faster than coffee does is taurine – an important amino acid that is needed for every single metabolic process that occurs in our body. And no, it is not extracted from the sperm of the bull – despite the similarity with the Latin name Taurus for bull. Taurine is made inside our bodies too, but we use taurine as a supplement or an additive in energy drinks mostly from animal food, such as meat and dairy products.
But, besides the taurine, there are many conservatives and other unknown chemical substance inside a single energy drink. To speak for myself, I caught a helicobacter – a bacteria that attacks the normal work of the gut, and in my case, it was such a heavy stadium -I had to drink 5 different kinds of pills before every meal, so that my gut would be able to process the food! Those 5 months were the hardest ones in my life till now.
To save you from the pain, here’s an easy DIY energy drink recipe.
- 200 grams of warm water
- 2 tablespoons of natural honey
- a tiny cup of freshly squeezed lemon
- a pinch of cinnamon (optional)
- mint leaf (optional)
Mix all ingredients together, but make sure, if you add cinnamon, that it firstly dissolves in the warm water. This is a natural energy booster, that also helps with detoxifying of the entire organism and unplug the veins.
